Thread: Plug for MIG PAK 15?

    Plug for MIG PAK 15?

Finally getting aournd to wiring the plug in my garage. I need to be able to plug in the welder at times, and a kiln at times. The kiln is a standard dryer plug, so I bought the appropriate outlet. Problem is, the MIG PAK 15 plug does not fit into it. Is there an adapter I need to buy or do I need to get a different plug for the welder?

i thought they could use a dryer outlet aswell?
I once apologized to a first time passenger because of how dirty my interior was. I then rescinded that apology as I thought to myself that they should be thanking me for the experience.

they can use a dryer outles but u will need to either chage the plug on the weldler.. or better yet, make an extention cord for you welder with the welder style plug at one end and the appropriate plug at the other, only down side is u will always have to use the cord to weld, or just make a very short adapter cord
the project : 86 sami, 22RE, toy axels, locked, high steer,, 3 link front, 4 link rear umm doing more stuff., then some trails... maybe......... OH!! and a nail .. uh oh... i'm fucked needs tires!

I wired my garage specifically for the pak 15.. can't remember where I got the plug from though. I made an extension cord about 10' because I needed it to reach the far side of my vehicle so I would go the route monkey described with an adaptor extension cord.

and can these cords be bought, or do I go to RONA and get the pieces I need. Thing is, dryer oulet is a 4 wire and the MIGPAK is 3 wire.

I'm sure the welding places sell extension cords. I just made mine though. Got a good deal on the wire.. 3 meters and they charged me for 3 feet.

if your doing the wireing, i would suggest just putting another outlet in there. i have a plug for vertually any kind of outlet in my shop. but i was pretty lucky it came with 3 of the dryer plugs and i just replaced 2 of them with different styles.

Wiring was already done and roughed in for me. I'm just supplying the receptacle and the breaker.

i put a dryer plug in, then from that box i wired a welder plug right below it.

i'm obviously not going to using both at the same time for load reasons.

i made my extension cord, welder plug on female end, dryer on wall end. that way if i go over somewhere else i can plug into a dryer plug as most people don't have welder plugs. or if somebody came over and they only had a dryer plug on thier machine they could hook up.

but now i think i would just buy something like this
http://cgi.ebay.com/WELDER-EXTENSION...QQcmdZViewItem as it is cheaper then making one (~$130CAN + $20 for Seawings), and make a short adapter to a dryer plug.

Thanks for all the info. I think I'm going to put the proper 50A plug in wired back to the panel. I'll be putting it right bside the panel, so it should be fairly easy.

Where's the best place to get plugs? I just got the cable to make my cord, but I'm having a hard time locating the right plugs (male drier plug, female welder plug). I've seen "drier plug kits" all over that have the plug attached to a 1.5m tail, but I'd rather use a proper plug and not have to use a junction box. Same for the welder end. I've seen the receptacles that you'd mount in a wall box, but no proper cord ends
Sorry isn't an excuse if you do something stupid on purpose.
